MangaLens / Privacy

Privacy, in plain language.

MangaLens translates text inside manga images. This policy explains the data boundary between your browser, the hosted manga-processing service, your chosen translation provider, and account billing.

Local

Your BYOK API key and extension settings stay in Chrome local storage.

7 days

Generated assets cached in Cloudflare R2 expire automatically.

5 days

Performance measurements are automatically deleted and contain no manga text.

1. Data MangaLens processes

Extension settings: source, target and interface languages, OCR mode, model name, Base URL, API key, display preferences, concurrency, hidden sites, and floating-button position. These values are stored locally in Chrome.

Manga processing: when hosted processing is selected, the extension sends only the manga image pixels needed for detection, OCR, text removal, and layout, together with source-language and technical request identifiers. If an original image cannot be read because of cross-origin or anti-hotlink controls, MangaLens captures the current visible tab on-device and crops only the visible manga region before processing. The page URL or site origin may be included to diagnose capture and compatibility issues.

Account data: email address, AISaver identity result, hashed device identifier, session and plan status, credit usage, and subscription/provider identifiers. We do not store your Google password or full payment-card details.

Operational data: status, error code, cache hit, provider tier, language pair, region count, and stage timings such as capture, detection, OCR, cleanup, translation, redraw, and total duration. Performance records do not contain manga images, OCR text, translations, API keys, or full page URLs.

2. How we use data

We use this data only to provide translation, restore translated layouts, authenticate an installation, enforce plan limits, process subscriptions, prevent abuse, troubleshoot failures, and improve speed and reliability.

MangaLens does not sell personal information, build advertising profiles, or use private manga content to train a general-purpose AI model.

3. BYOK and hosted processing

In BYOK mode, your OpenAI-compatible API key remains in Chrome local storage. Translation requests are sent directly from the extension to the Base URL you configure, so that provider's privacy terms apply.

In hosted manga mode, image data passes through MangaLens's Cloudflare gateway to a dedicated inference service. The gateway returns OCR regions and generated cleanup assets to the extension. Browser-to-gateway traffic uses HTTPS; the inference service is access-controlled and is not directly exposed in the extension.

4. Service providers and disclosures

Cloudflare provides Workers, D1, R2, Pages, network delivery, and security controls. AISaver provides Google or magic-link identity handoff. Creem processes checkout, payments, and subscription events. Your selected OpenAI-compatible provider receives only the translation request you direct to it.

We may disclose the minimum necessary data to comply with law, protect users and the service, investigate fraud or security incidents, or complete a business transfer with notice and continued protection.

5. Retention

Chrome-local settings remain until you change them, clear extension storage, or uninstall MangaLens. Raw page images are processed for the request and are not intentionally retained as standalone source uploads.

Generated cleanup assets cached in Cloudflare R2 expire seven days after upload. Performance events are deleted after five days. MangaLens session tokens are stored as hashes and expire after 30 days. Account, entitlement, purchase, and subscription records remain while needed to operate the account, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and prevent fraud.

Inference results may be cached to avoid repeating expensive OCR. You may request deletion of account-linked data by contacting us. Some security logs or backups can persist for a limited additional period before rotation.

6. Chrome permissions

storage saves your settings and installation state. Host access lets the user start translation on manga pages, detect the requested manga image or Canvas, and read or crop the manga region the user asks it to translate.

MangaLens uses static content scripts and does not request scripting, activeTab, or declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess. It does not modify website request headers. When a manga image cannot be read directly, it uses a visible-tab screenshot only to crop the user-selected manga region locally before processing.

These permissions are used for the single purpose of translating manga selected by the user; they are not used to monitor unrelated browsing or inject advertising.

7. Your controls and rights

You can use local OCR, choose a different translation provider, hide or disable the floating button, clear translations, sign out, clear Chrome extension storage, or uninstall the extension. You can request access, correction, deletion, or export of account-linked personal data by emailing [email protected].

Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing and to complain to a data-protection authority.

8. Security, children, and policy changes

We use scoped service credentials, hashed session/device identifiers, access controls, size limits, retention rules, and HTTPS at the public service boundary. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a unique API key with the minimum permissions your provider supports.

MangaLens is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and its effective date before or when the change takes effect.

9. Chrome Web Store Limited Use and contact

MangaLens's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
